Any Bible believing Christian should be deeply grieved at the weekend events in Charlottesville, Virginia. Any thought of white supremacy or the priority of one shade of skin over another has to be a bad stench in the nostrils of God who made each and every human being in his own image (Gen 1:26-27).

Not only does such an idea contradict the biblical revelation of creation, it also mitigates against the intended target of the Great Commission by which Jesus commanded his disciples to reach and teach all nations (Matt 28:19-20). Such an international heartbeat extends from God’s creation through the great commission all the way to the grand consummation anticipated in Revelation 4 and 5 where people redeemed from every tribe tongue, nation, and people form an international choir that joins the angelic hosts in lauding and applauding the greatness of the Father and the Son for their ministry carried out throughout human history by means of the Holy Spirit.

To practice or promote any idea of racial supremacy is, therefore, contrary to the nature of God and His revelation in Scripture. Even His special choice of Israel was for the purpose that all the nations of the earth would be blessed as they respond in faith to the seed of Abraham – the promised Messiah – Jesus Christ.

This fall there will be continuing opportunities in class, chapel, and other gatherings to discuss bringing gospel reconciliation to issues of explicit and implicit racism in our school, in our churches, and in our broader communities.
