Our Purpose

DTS Magazine teaches truths from God’s word and shares stories of God’s people at work in the world. We publish articles applying biblical truth to life, as a ministry to friends of Dallas Theological Seminary.

Our Readers

Although the magazine reaches all of our alumni, most of the magazine’s readers are not DTS graduates. Therefore, articles should not presume knowledge of Hebrew, Greek, or other advanced areas of biblical and theological study. Our audience comprises primarily evangelical ministers and laypeople who are actively involved in church and eager to continue learning and deepening their faith. DTS Magazine fosters a community of readers eager for teaching from God’s Word and encouragement to love well.

Contributors

DTS Magazine is a ministry of Dallas Theological Seminary. We prioritize articles written by our alumni, faculty, students, staff, board members, donors, and their families, so when you submit content, please tell us about your connection to DTS and include a current CV. All content is expected to align with DTS’s doctrinal statement; therefore, authors should be familiar with these theological commitments.

Submission Form

To submit a manuscript for consideration, please use this form; do not send manuscripts by email. We ask that submissions be original works not published elsewhere. Submission does not guarantee acceptance or publication. Submissions through this form will be considered for DTS Magazine (print) or DTS Voice (digital), at our discretion. Allow up to three weeks for review and a publication decision. Please take some time to look at recent content from the magazine and website, available here, to ensure that your writing adheres to our style and tone.

Content

Bible Teaching

Biblical exposition articles, typically authored by DTS faculty or similarly qualified individuals, invite readers to engage with truth from a passage of Scripture or an aspect of theological doctrine. When writing this kind of article, please remember to include practical application. Avoid reference to specific current news events, as magazine content is prepared months in advance of publication. When technical jargon is required, clearly explain the terms and concepts at a layperson’s level.

Christian Living

In Christian living articles, authors share truths they’ve learned through real-world experience. Usually set in first-person, these articles include one or more stories illustrating the message of one or more Bible verses. Articles should encourage Christians to live out their faith in everyday circumstances.

Personal Profiles

DTS Magazine (print) and DTS Voice (digital) occasionally highlight the story of a DTS student or graduate who is having an influence in their community through a unique ministry. In these profiles, readers learn about people in the DTS family who are modeling the school’s posture of “Teach Truth. Love Well.” In crafting a profile piece, bring the story to life through specific examples, along with direct quotes from your subject and from a few friends or colleagues. A profile is neither a comprehensive biography nor a rote listing of facts and statistics; the focus is a specific time in this person’s ministry, all centered on a theme.

Poetry

We occasionally publish original poetry, when it matches a publication theme. We welcome your poem and will determine whether it fits an upcoming theme.

Reviews

At this time, we are not soliciting reviews of books or other materials, nor are we able to provide marketing or advertising for your books or materials.

Style Guidelines

Using the submission form, send content of up to 2,000 words total (articles that exceed this limit may be rejected). We prefer items of 600–1,500 words. DTS Magazine follows The Chicago Manual of Style (18th edition, full note); submissions that do not use this style for references will be rejected. Manuscripts should be submitted as editable Word docx files only. All articles and titles are subject to editorial review and revision.

We use Scripture references from the current edition of the NET Bible. Authors may cite other Bible versions where they can affirm a compelling reason to prefer different renderings. In such cases, include the abbreviation of the version in parentheses after each reference. Use a reliable online source such as BibleGateway.com to confirm that all Bible quotations are current and accurate.

When submitting an article that we’ve requested, please attach a high-resolution current color headshot photograph of yourself and a bio statement of up to forty words.

Payment for Articles

All submissions are received on speculation. Payment for content accepted for publication is based on word count, need for the magazine, and amount of editorial work required. Authors receive payment when the content is published.
