Dear Seminary Friends and Family,

The images are staggering. The stories break your heart. Like you, Barby and I watch the news and read the reports and the emotion is almost overwhelming. We believe in a Sovereign God – and it is in moments like this, moments of bewilderment, when we trust that He will work in strategic ways to bring healing – physically and spiritually. Pain frequently causes humanity to listen in unique ways. Our prayer is that we will turn to our great God for all comfort and hope, and that many will come into a relationship with His Son Jesus through such tragedy.

We want to help, and we know you do too. I’d like to outline a few ways in which Dallas Seminary will aim to assist in the relief efforts. Many alumni and friends have called and we are aware that many efforts have been initiated even in recent days. We trust that such efforts will collectively meet a great need and that our Lord will be honored through such efforts. Please note the two following efforts and recommendations:

1. Donate to the Dallas Seminary Haiti Relief Fund.

  • Thanks to two donations from DTS friends, all donations will be matched up to $20,000.
  • Please be aware that there will be NO administrative costs. 100% of your donation will go to the relief effort.
  • All funds given in this manner will be dispersed, by committee and as needed, to DTS Alumni and Alumni ministries in Haiti.
  • Special considerations, or designations, will be made to support Seminaire de Theologie Evangelique (STEP), a sister seminary in Haiti, whose president is a DTS alumnus.
  • If writing a check, please make it payable to DTS, designated to the Haiti Relief Fund and mail it to:

    Dallas Theological Seminary
    ATTN: Haiti Relief Fund
    3909 Swiss Ave.
    Dallas, TX 75204

In the meantime we’d like to provide you with a list, although not exhaustive, of alumni and alumni-pastored churches from the affected area for which we ask you to pray.

Finally, as in any disaster, it is natural for people to wonder where God is or why He has allowed such destruction. Whatever your station in this unfolding story—victim, relative of a victim, relief worker, observer—these questions are worthy of asking. The God we serve is worthy of the asking—and more than capable of handling the questions.

Please pray diligently with us for those who have lost much. May we together hope in the God who can restore and make all things new.

In sympathy and support,

Dr. Mark L. Bailey
President
