Dallas Theological Seminary Appoints Dr. Roger Poupart as Director of Doctor of Ministry Studies
DALLAS, TX – Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Roger Poupart as the new Director of Doctor of Ministry Studies. A two-time graduate of DTS (ThM, 1995; DMin, 2006), Dr. Poupart succeeds Dr. Scott Barfoot, who has led the program with distinction for more than sixteen years. Dr. Barfoot will continue serving the seminary as a full-time faculty member in the Educational Ministries and Leadership Department.
Dr. Poupart brings nearly thirty years of pastoral experience and a global teaching ministry to his new role. Most recently, he served as Senior Pastor of Wayside Chapel in San Antonio, Texas, where he led a multigenerational, multiethnic congregation through a season of significant growth, revitalization, and expanded outreach.
In addition to his pastoral leadership, Dr. Poupart has taught pastors and ministry leaders in more than a dozen countries across Eastern Europe, East Asia, and Africa, and has remained actively involved in law enforcement chaplaincy and crisis response. His ministry experience includes serving as a critical incident chaplain at events such as the Sutherland Springs church shooting and the Robb Elementary tragedy in Uvalde. He currently serves as a Bexar County Sheriff Chaplain, a board member of the DTS Board of Incorporate Members.
“Dr. Poupart exemplifies the seminary’s mission to equip pastors for the faithful proclamation of God’s Word and the strengthening of His Church,” said Dr. George Hillman, Vice President for Education at DTS. “With nearly three decades of ministry marked by integrity, biblical faithfulness, and visionary leadership, he brings a pastor’s heart and a global perspective that will greatly enrich our Doctor of Ministry program.”
The Doctor of Ministry (DMin) program at DTS is designed to provide advanced training for those engaged in full-time ministry, deepening theological foundations, sharpening ministry skills, and fostering spiritual vitality. As Director, Dr. Poupart will guide students in integrating their academic study with practical ministry challenges, ensuring they are equipped to lead with wisdom and conviction in a rapidly changing world.
