About the Contributors

Darrell L. Bock

Dr. Bock has earned recognition as a Humboldt Scholar (Tübingen University in Germany), is the author or editor of over 45 books, including well-regarded commentaries on Luke and Acts and studies of the historical Jesus, and works in cultural engagement as host of the seminary’s Table Podcast. He was president of the Evangelical Theological Society (ETS) from 2000–2001, has served as a consulting editor for Christianity Today, and serves on the boards of Wheaton College, Chosen People Ministries, the Hope Center, Christians in Public Service, and the Institute for Global Engagement. His articles appear in leading publications, and he often is an expert for the media on NT issues. Dr. Bock has been a New York Times best-selling author in nonfiction; serves as a staff consultant for Bent Tree Fellowship Church in Carrollton, TX; and is elder emeritus at Trinity Fellowship Church in Dallas. When traveling overseas, he will tune into the current game involving his favorite teams from Houston—live—even in the wee hours of the morning. Married for 49 years to Sally, he is a proud father of two daughters and a son and is also a grandfather of five.

Jamal-Dominique Hopkins

Jamal-Dominique Hopkins is Associate Professor of Christian Scriptures and Director of Black Church Studies at Baylor University’s Truett Theological Seminary. He also is a Pedagogy Fellow with Yale University’s Center for Faith and Culture. Dr. Hopkins holds ordination credentials with the Church of God in Christ and the African Methodist Episcopal Church. His degrees are from Howard University (B.A.), Fuller Theological Seminary (M.A.), and the University of Manchester in England (Ph.D.) His recent book is titled, Cultic Spiritualization: Religious Sacrifice in the Dead Sea Scrolls (Gorgias Press, 2022). Hopkins and his wife, Karen, reside in the Waco, TX area.

Jeremiah Chandler

Jeremiah Chandler is a current student at Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS), enrolled in the dual degree program, pursuing a Master’s in Apologetics and Evangelism and Intercultural Studies and Missions. He serves as the president of the Black Student Fellowship and is passionate about racial reconciliation and cultural anthropology. Jeremiah plans to pursue a PhD in cultural anthropology to help the church better engage with culture both inside and outside its walls. 

Jerome Gay

Pastor Jerome Gay Jr., raised in Southeast Washington, DC, moved to Raleigh, NC in 1997 to attend Saint Augustine’s College, where he earned a Bachelor’s in Communications. He also holds a Master’s in Christian Studies and Ethics from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. As Lead Pastor of Teaching and Vision at Vision Church, Jerome is passionate about raising gospel-centered leaders in urban contexts. He’s the author of five books, including The Whitewashing of Christianity and Church Hurt. Jerome is married to Crystal Gay, and they have two children, Jamari and Jerome III. He also founded The Urban Perspective.
